Teeth Are Gnawing - 2008 Recording Archive

TEETH ARE GNAWING

“Teeth Are Gnawing” is an original track from the first album I ever recorded and produced all the way back in 2008, and in the process of creating my latest record I decided to dig it out and play it for producer Matt Patrick. I felt it was time to uncover some of these original recordings and restore them prior to releasing this new project if possible, and Matt agreed. So now Teeth Are Gnawing is remastered and available for the first time on all digital music platforms and streaming apps.

My journey into songwriting really started around 2007 in Fargo, ND during my first semester of college - where I really struggled - and music provided a much needed escape, and also a creative outlet. I found that folk artists and poets attracted me the most, and I began developing my own way of crafting songs, story-telling, and sought to discover my voice on the acoustic guitar. I dropped out of school after just a few months, having already begun performing in local cafes and coffee bars with a nice collection of my own songs. After moving back home my songwriting accelerated, and a local artist and studio engineer by the name of Joe Diethelm took notice, and he opened his studio to me so I could start recording demos of my stuff. Joe being an incredible craftsman and stained-glass artist designed and built his studio with a Swiss Alps cottage theme, and it was situated right along the Crow river in Watertown, MN. I felt at home in the studio, and what started as demos quickly blossomed into the makings of a full album. I spent much of the spring and summer of 2008 with Joe as he showed me the ropes of engineering and production. This was the beginnings of my songwriting and early music development with Teeth are Gnawing being one of the earliest tracks recorded. However, just as this record was nearing completion I experienced a dramatic spiritual awakening that shifted my focus away from music as a career and towards God. I managed to release this record in October of 2008, hosting a live show in my hometown with some supporting artists and songwriters I’d come to know, with around a 100 people in attendance.
