Jon Arthur Schmidt is a singer-songwriter and recording artist whose musical exploration began in the greater Twin Cities region. Born and raised in the rural landscape of southern Minnesota, his unique sound resonates with the tones and colors of the Midwest, and stems from his traditional folk roots. Jon’s songwriting contains a penetrating quality, weaving together compelling melodies that espouse the stories being told, which are often honest portraits of his life, while creating a sonic bridge between classic and modern forms of musical expression.

Throughout Jon’s life music has been an integral part of his existence, starting with his ability to compose and decipher music by ear on the piano at a young age, to teaching himself the drums around age 9. Jon then picked up the acoustic guitar and began writing music seriously near the end of 2007, and recorded and produced his first full-length album when he was just 19 years old. Driven by his distinct finger-picking style and background as a drummer, he released this collection of alternative-folk songs to a live audience in the Fall of 2008 just before entering an extended period of solitude and spiritual growth. He then emerged from this season of silence in 2016 with the creation and release of two albums - Jesus Made a Way (2016) followed by Come on Back (2019). Both are compilations of psalms which Jon drew out of times of worship and personal reflection.
He has since uncovered two of the original recordings from his very first album and had them remastered for digital release - Teeth Are Gnawing (2008/Remastered) & Peace Tree (2008/Remastered).

Jon returned to the studio in 2020 with a renewed desire to harness an organic approach to the recording process that would accentuate his raw artistry, and completed his latest full-length album From The Marrow in 2021. Recorded at The Library studio in the heart of the Arts District in NE Minneapolis beside longstanding producer Matt Patrick, this record is one of his most potent works to date. In asking Jon about his decision to partner with Matt he stated, “I was taken by the warm, eclectic space and inviting atmosphere of The Library. I felt Matt understood from the outset the direction I was wanting to go, and his production style allowed the songs to breathe in their most natural form. My songs found a home there.” The album is flush with sounds inspired by Schmidt and Patrick’s diverse musical palette, and released worldwide October 15th, 2021.
